Abby’s Heart Surgeries

This video shows the walk that Abby was chosen to take. God has brought her through some very dark days. She had her first open heart surgery at four days old. Abby coded the day after surgery. As a result, she was placed on ECMO, a machine that pumped the blood through her body, as well as, being on the ventilator. She slowly took baby steps to recovering and was removed from all life support after six long weeks. Abby remained in the hospital two additional weeks and was then able to see her home for the first time.
She had a second open heart surgery at 18 months old. She was literally walking laps around the ICU within 48 hours after surgery. We were back at home after five days.
The American Heart Association is a national voluntary health agency whose mission is: “Building healthier lives, free of cardiovascular diseases and stroke.” We are teaming up with AHA and fighting heart disease and stroke by participating in the American Heart Associations Start! Heart Walk. Please support this cause by making a donation that will help provide research and education to stop our No. 1 and No. 3 killers. Thank you in advance for your support! http://jonescountyheartwalk.kintera.org
