Food That Kills – Part 5 of 6

Explore the consequences of a meat (animal based) diet. Are we really designed to be omnivores OR does a plant based diet suit us best?

MEDICAL STATISTICS
* The third highest cause of deaths in the US is what is termed “iatrogenic”, which means “induced in a patient by a physician’s activity, manner, or therapy.” This accounts for an estimated 225,000 deaths per annum which is about 10% of total deaths from all causes including old age. Of these, 12,000 deaths result from unnecessary surgery. The highest cause of deaths in the US is heart disease (725,000) and the 2nd highest is cancer (549,000). Both of these were almost unheard of at the beginning of the twentieth century.

* 180,000 deaths a year occur due to adverse reactions to prescription medications. By comparison, general accidents in life account for 98,000 per annum. This includes 42,000 from car accidents, 120 from airline crashes**, 90 from being struck by lightning** and 5 from Anthrax (in 2001). 15,500 die from murders and 20,000 from flu or its complications.

**averaged over 2-3 decades

Causes of Death Further Breakdown
1. Tobacco 435,000
2. Poor diet and physical inactivity 400,000
3. Alcohol consumption 85,000
4. Infectious agents (e.g., influenza and pneumonia) 75,000
5. Toxic agents (e.g., pollutants and asbestos) 55,000
6. Motor vehicle accidents 43,000
7. Firearms 29,000
8. Sexual behavior 20,000
9. Illicit use of drugs 17,000
* Despite all the media hype about how good the US medical system is and how we’re winning the war against cancer, these statistics tell a very different story:
According to the 2001 World Health Organization report, “World Health Report Health Systems: Improving Performance”, the U.S. ranks 37th out of 191 countries. A commentary published in the July 26, 2000 issue of the Journal of the American Medical Association notes that in a comparison of the top 13 industrial countries based on 16 health indicators, the U.S. ranked on average 12th. The countries included in the study were, in order from the top-ranked (best health care) to the lowest-ranked, as follows: Japan, Sweden, Canada, France, Australia, Spain, Finland, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Belgium, the U.S., and Germany. Of the 13 countries compared, only Germany ranked lower overall than the U.S. In fact, the U.S. ranked dead last for three indicators. These were low-birth-weight percentages, neonatal mortality and infant mortality overall, and years of potential life lost. These rankings do not paint a picture of a country that has the world’s best health care.
Is it true that we’re winning the war against cancer like we’re asked to believe, after the massive research funding backed by the government?
From the U.S. government’s own raw statistical abstracts we find the real story:
Mortality from Cancer in the U.S.
year — deaths/ 100,000
1967— 157.2
1970— 162.9
1982— 187.3
1987— 198.2
1988— 198.4
1989— 201.0
1990— 203.2
1991— 204.1
1992— 204.1
1992 is the last year for which data is currently available from Vital Statistics. There is nothing to indicate that there should be any downturn between 1992 and the present. In fact, independent analysis by the CA Journal for Cancer Clinicians, Jan 97, put the 1993 death rate at 220 per 100,000. A 40% increase in cancer deaths per capita in the last 4 decades is hardly “winning the war against cancer.”

* An estimated 2 million people a year (11% of those admitted) catch infections in hospitals that they didn’t have when they were admitted and approximately 90,000 of them die from these infections. An approximate list in order of likelihood is: urinary tract infections (34%), surgical site infections (17%), respiratory infections especially pneumonia (13%), blood infections/bacteraemia (14%), skin (especially burns), gastrointestinal tract infections, and central nervous system infections.
* About 2,216,000 annual hospitalizations result in adverse drug reactions and these account for 106,000 deaths annually.

* As Dr. Robert S. Mendelsohn demonstrates in his book “Confessions of a Medical Heretic”, when hospitals or doctors go on strike, the death rate goes down and when they go back to work, the death rates rise again.

* Its estimated, that 80% of the population will end up with a tumor, cancer, disease or some type of physical problems or pain. This means approximately 4 out of 5 people are on the highway to some type of physical tragedy.
* Side effects of commonly used over the counter pain relievers include gastric ulcers, bleeding stomachs, hospitalizations and 16,500 deaths last year.

    All animal products …
All animal products will KILL YOU!!! Animal products are the cause of all diseases known to man!!! Everyone needs to adopt a 100% plant based diet. You will get everything you need from fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains and legumes. Make this switch as soon as possible to make yourself and your loved ones extremely healthy. You will have a ton of energy!!! Things to stay away from include whey, casein, lactose and albumin. Also, limit consumption of refined sugars and carbohydrates.

    That statement is …
That statement is so true…. me too. Also as a side note, avoid soy and sub with Almond or Rice milk, preferably Almond since the calcium content is 45% of daily requirement. If you are eating bovine dairy, you are drinking (eating) liquid meat. I would never drink cow’s milk again – ever!

I have to admit, my horrible PMS symptoms ended the day I stopped eating meat. I miss it sometimes, but the payoff is worth it!

    Ok guys this …
Ok guys this subject is great! But I knew it before. I read “Natural Eating” by Geoff Bond and changed my diet. The problems (with my stool) were gone and I feel great, rejuvenated and… you gotta read this book too.

    Enjoy lots of rice, …
Enjoy lots of rice, pasta and beans and slowly add veg and fruit. You sound as if you have a fast metabolism which you are very lucky. Be careful, as that can all change in an instant and you will find the weight increases. It’s okay to be thin and remember, it’s what’s on the inside that matters… clogged arteries, cancer tumors and diabetes are not something you want. Calcium is in green leafy vegetables plus almonds. Google “vitamin charts” and you will be surprised.

  10. DianeDi Says:

    I was thin and …
I was thin and healthy at 23 as well…. poor eating habits are cumulative and they do catch up with you when you’re older. Haven’t you ever looked at someone who is overweight with illnesses and say “I don’t ever want to be like that”? I’m sure we all do, but the sad fact is, an animal based diet will take a huge toll on your health. Your mother and most doctors don’t know any more than what they’ve been told by corporations that push this stuff.

I mean it nice, really! I wonder myself I´m not lacking vitamins or calcium or others. seriously not even the doctors know. wish someone had an answer, honestly.
I tried and changed my eating habits to more vegetables but I just lost weight. I wish I could get more weight, just 51 kilograms. like eating fast food to hold the weight!?!? this can´t be right. that´s what bothers me

  12. sabserab Says:

    weird, I can´t eat …
weird, I can´t eat apples or others like nuts cause of allergic reactions but I eat meat and lots of pizza and not really healthy food and I´m thin… and my body is healthy with 23, ok, still. but I wonder if not fruits are overrated. ok, now I get thumbs down

my mother told me lots of food lies. I don´t know whats right, even now (that´s why I watch this). but I have mental disorder now from all the fear of toxic
people try eat what you like, even me still living!
    (sry my english)

    This guy actually …
This guy actually makes sense to me. Of all the things I’ve learned in my life, it all points ot fruits/vegetables/nuts. I’ve seen very very very little that points to meat. In fact, of the things that have, I’ve seen the arrow going back in reverse pointing at fruits/vegetables/nuts. I don’t know why, but some people in our world have an innate need to eat meat. This need is so overpowering that they’ve convinced themselves they can’t live without it – even though we keep showing we can.

    thats because …
thats because frenchs keep drinking wine all the time. lol

  15. DianeDi Says:

    And yes, fruits and …
And yes, fruits and vegetables are sprayed with pesticides…. fluoride is one very popular pesticide used on many crops. If people can grow their own that’s a bonus or buy organic. Pesticide residue is far less on f & v than in animal flesh. The flesh contains far more toxins as it is stored in muscle and fat.

I wouldn’t post information that I didn’t truly believe in and research. People need to do their own research, like I did. You couldn’t have convinced me of this 10 years ago.

  16. DianeDi Says:

    The French also …
The French also walk a lot, not like north americans that drive almost everywhere – particularly drive thrus. There is a balance and a low fat diet void of animal products, particularly dairy is very beneficial. Yes the French eat fat, again, portion size is much smaller and based on the lack of the additives and chemicals mentioned above, plus consumption of red wine also helps. Many people think a low fat diet is a coke and burger with no cheese…. it’s not.

  17. DianeDi Says:

    I am not a medical …
I am not a medical expert nor do I claim to be, however I do read a lot of reports and add up the evidence. A couple of things people don’t realize, Aspartame, MSG, High Fructose Corn Syrup are in thousands of products. It is proven to cause weight gain, not to mention other severe health problems. Fluoride in tap water is another huge factor as it kills off the Thyroid Gland which regulates your metabolism. The French do not fluoridate their water and many substances we use are banned in EU

  18. RobsnVegas Says:

    Diane, are you a …
Diane, are you a medical expert ?
The low fat diet has been the fad for close to 20 years, and has been a desaster. Fat will not make you fat, and all these millions of American avoiding fat are getting fatter all the time. The French are doing very well on their high fat diet. They are not near as fat as us Americans.
Do you think fruits & vegitables are not spray with pesticides ?
This guy doesn’t look that healthy to me.

Dr. Atkins died – yet they never did settle the question… where his arteries clogged. He died much younger than one would expect. Atkins diet is not a good thing. Perhaps you can convice your dad to have a look at this….

  24. DianeDi Says:

    Maybe they don’t …
Maybe they don’t contain that where you live, but it’s loaded with it here. All flesh especially US is full on rBST growth hormones, the feed contains other animal products from rendering plants – which is referred to as high protein & then the animals are sprayed with pesticides as their tails are docked & they can’t swat flies. The feed has antibiotics in it to prevent illnesses due to overcrowding and stress. It’s really a vicious circle and everything they ingest, does end up in the meat.

  25. sludgedozer Says:

Scare tactics might be a good thing. I’ve seen my dad almost have a heart attack a few times. He insists the atkins diet is the way.
